Questions About Garlic Bread

What is the best combination for garlic bread?

The limits are your tastebuds and your imagination! But the place to start is the cheese. We used Monterey Jack cheese, but other great options for endless combinations are mozzarella cheese, cheddar, and even some parmesan cheese! Toppings are up to you, whether you are going for a vegetarian version, or a meat lover’s bread; for vegetarian, a great combination is olives and mushrooms. These combined with cheese, mayo, and garlic butter is amazing. For something meatier, you can’t go wrong with olives, green bell peppers, and sausage. A winner! Of course with the garlic butter mixture, you will be singing!

What do you eat with garlic bread?

Pizza is the obvious (and delicious) option, but since you are already eating a loaf of bread with garlic, butter, and toppings, maybe you want something lighter, lower in sodium, cholesterol, and higher in fiber. I think salad goes really great with loaded cheesy garlic bread. Any type of salad– from Caesar to a simple oil and vinegar. Another great meal with this is lasagna! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread cut in half lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup butter softened (not melted)
  • 3 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 3 cups Monterey Jack cheese shredded
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can olives sliced
  • 20 slices pepperoni chopped (again, we like to use turkey pepperoni)
  • 1 cup mushrooms sliced, then roughly chopped
  • 2 green onions sliced and chopped
  • Any other pizza toppings you like to taste

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients (except for the bread) using a spatula or wooden spoon.
  • When everything is mixed together really well, spread the mixture evenly over the bread and bake at 325-degrees for about 20-25 minutes or until cheese is melted and bread is slightly crispy. Cut up into individual slices and serve.
  • When we made this, we froze half of it before baking and saved it for later. It heats up GREAT after it has been frozen!

Notes

Save your foil! Instead of having leftovers, cook half of your cheesy garlic bread at a time; this tastes best when it’s oozy and gooey and fresh from the oven. Prepare a full batch and freeze half, cook it when you are ready for a delicious appetizer or side!

    1. We actually changed the name of it to “French Bread” instead of “Garlic Bread” because there isn’t any garlic in it. Whoops! haha you can sure add some in the mixture though and make it a garlic bread!
