Simple, Savory, and Game-Ready

This 3-ingredient Chili Cheese Dip recipe is a satisfying appetizer or snack, perfect for parties and get togethers! We make this dip all the time while watching our favorite sports on TV – especially football. Sometimes I put the dip into a little slow cooker on low to keep it nice and warm, but it never lasts long and always gets polished off quickly! You can easily double or triple the recipe depending on how big of a crowd you are entertaining. At first glance, this dip may not seem like much, but combine these ingredients together and you’ll keep coming back for more!

Ingredients in Chili Cheese Dip

  • Cream Cheese
  • Canned Chili
  • Colby Jack Cheese – you can also use shredded cheddar cheese or pepper jack cheese. Avoid using mozzarella cheese – it will make the dip a little too stringy.
  • Optional Add-ins for your chili cheese dip: chopped bell peppers, cooked ground beef or cooked chorizo for a little extra protein, extra beans for added fiber, taco seasoning, chili powder, diced green chilies, diced tomatoes, rotel
  • Optional Garnishes – fresh cilantro, sliced green onions, black olives, sour cream

Different Ways to Dip

I typically grab a bag of tortilla chips to go with this dip, but Frito scoops also work well. The simple combination of the salty chips with the savory dip flavors is truly sublime. You can also dip taquitos or quesadillas – really whatever you have on hand! I’m sure even some baby carrots and celery sticks (or even french fries) have ended up in this dip at one time or another. You can also use the dip as a mouth-watering taco topping!

How many stars would you give this recipe?

Comments

  1. This looks sooo good! What brand of chili do you use? Can you make this vegetarian by using a can of chili beans? or vegetarian chili?

    1. You can really use any kind of chili you like best! I would definitely get one that has more than jut chili beans. A vegetarian chili would be the way to go if you didn’t want the kind with meat.

  2. What size package of cream cheese? I can’t believe no one asked. Must just be me who is missing it. Thanks.

  3. 4 stars
I’ve never heard of dip this way, I’ve always used a 2lb. block of Velveeta with a can of hormel chili, no beans. Will try this!!

  4. I’ve been making this for years except I also add a small jar of tostito’s salsa con queso…it gives it that yummy cheesy taste!

  5. I make this also with a 1/2 cup cheddar in it and sprinkle lots of chopped cilantro on top. The cilantro makes it SO yummy!

  6. 5 stars
I don't think I've ever commented before, but I've just gotta thank you for always posting the most yummy & do-able recipes! You've saved my life numerous times! This recipe in particular came in handy the other day when I had to come up with an appetizer last minute! Keep them coming!

  7. Really? No cheddar in this recipe? I would have guessed that's what gave it the yellow color. I might have to give this a try since cheddar isn't that easy to find here, but canned chili and cream cheese are no problem.
