Hot Wings with Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce
Our hot wings have way more flavor than your typical wings that are already flavored or seasoned at the grocery store. You can decide just how hot you really want to go. And the blue cheese dip is out of this world good, again, way more flavorful than store bought!
Ingredients for Hot Wings and Hot Wings Sauce
This hot wings recipe uses frozen chicken wings, in addition you will need:
- Liquid smoke
- Kosher salt
- Garlic
- Ketchup
- Cider vinegar
- Brown sugar
- Worcestershire sauce
- Mustard
- Soy sauce
- Sriracha (our secret ingredient!)
- Chili powder
A Few Cooking Tips
- No need for a deep fryer with this wings recipe, which makes them healthier and easier to make. All you need is a slow cooker (Crockpot). I like to cook these on high in the Crockpot for about 4 hours, but if you are wanting to get an earlier start you can also cook them on low for 6 to 7 hours. You just don’t want them to get over cooked because they will fall apart on you when you are dipping them in the sauce.
- Another tip is to make the blue cheese dip way ahead of time. At least a couple of hours. I like to make mine the night before, the longer it has to sit the more the flavors sink in. It is so incredibly yummy! I really like to use this same dip base for my blue cheese dressing on salads. You just cut the mayo and sour cream down to half a cup each and add a little milk, to desired dressing consistency. It is so good on our steak salad.
- Want a more crispy wing recipe? Be sure to try our Air Fryer Chicken Wings, they are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and smothered in a sweet tangy sauce!
Questions about Crock Pot Hot Wings
The sauce is the main difference. Buffalo sauce has a distinct spicy flavor, and the sauce often includes butter. The hot wings sauce is kicked up to the next level of spicy with hot sauce. We like to use Sriracha, but your favorite hot sauce can be used.
Definitely serve these wings with our blue cheese sauce. It is amazing! Celery sticks, carrots, cherry tomatoes, and fries are all fabulous options for sides.

- 1 ½ tablespoons Yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 to 2 tablespoons sriracha hot sauce
- ½ teaspoon chili powder
For the Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce:
- 3/4 cup mayonnaise
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 package hidden valley ranch mix dry, regular, not buttermilk
- 1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles
Instructions
- Mix water and liquid smoke in the bottom of a large slow cooker. Add frozen wings and sprinkle with kosher salt. Cook on high for about 4 hours.
- Just before wings are done cooking, add all sauce ingredients to a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer about 15 minutes.
- When wings are done cooking in the slow cooker, dip each wing in the sauce and place on a rimmed baking sheet. Place in oven under the broiler on high for a couple of minutes.
- Brush each wing again with sauce and place on the baking sheet again with the other side of the wing facing up. Place under the broiler again for a couple of minutes.
- Place wings on a serving plate and baste with the remaining sauce. Serve with blue cheese dipping sauce and celery sticks, carrots, cherry tomatoes, and/or fries.
Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce
- Mix together all the ingredients for the blue cheese dipping sauce except for the blue cheese crumbles. Then gently stir in the blue cheese. (You can also blend them in if you don’t like big pieces of cheese). Refrigerate for at least a couple of hours, the longer the better- it just gets more flavorful.
These were such a huge hit with my family! Love that blue cheese!
I love that these are made in the slow cooker!
These are my husband’s favorite. Classic football food. Yay for fall!
These were amazing and my house smelled delicious all day!
I wondered how many pounds of chicken wings in the bag, as in what size to purchase for this recipe
I used a 4 pound bag, but I had plenty of sauce left over. You could easily do 5 to 6 pounds of wings.
