It’s time for the kids to go back to school and I’ve been trying to come up with some new ideas for things to pack in their lunches. We recently became fans of Italian Sub Sandwiches toasted in the oven, but since that isn’t possible for when they go to school, I thought a wrap would be a fun way to still enjoy the flavors of the Italian meats and provolone cheese. I made this with a regular flour tortilla, but a spinach, whole-wheat, or a sun-dried tomato wrap would work just as well. It would be just as delicious made with flatbread, in a pita pocket, or on any kind of bread.
I like using a wrap for boxed lunches because it is so easy and convenient to eat. When I am making a wrap to pack in a lunch box, I roll it up as tightly as possible and wrap it in plastic wrap. This keeps the wrap secure holds all the contents in place until its time to eat so it doesn’t get soggy
Update: This Italian Sandwich Wrap has become one of our favorites for family outings, not just school lunches. They’re easy to assemble, perfect to pack along for whatever activity we’re planning, and taste terrific! I make them for my kids’ and husband’s lunches, and they’re always a hit.
Ingredients in an Italian Sandwich Wrap
We recently became fans of Italian Sub Sandwiches toasted in the oven. However, for school lunches I thought a wrap would be a fun way to still enjoy the flavors of the Italian meats and provolone cheese. Here’s what I use for this wrap:
- Flour Tortillas – You can use spinach, whole wheat, or sun-dried tomato tortillas too! Or see below for our tips on making a lettuce wrap.
- Italian Hard Salami
- Pepperoni
- Ham
- Provolone Cheese
- Banana Peppers – you can also use pepperoncini peppers
- Lettuce – we usually use green leaf, but you can use spinach or arugula too.
- Zesty Italian Dressing – the Kraft brand is our favorite!
More Ingredient Options
Try different combinations of meats, cheeses, veggies, and toppings to suit your tastes. Using a variety of ingredients keeps things fresh and fun, especially when you make them often.
Vegetables: Red Onion, Green Bell Pepper, Red Pepper, Artichoke Hearts, Tomato Slices
Meats: Capicola, Genoa Salami, Turkey
Cheeses: Mozzarella Cheese, Pepper Jack Cheese, Colby Jack Cheese
Toppings: Black Olives, Kalamata Olives, Fresh Basil, Mayo, Pesto
How to Make a Wrap
It is so simple to assemble a wrap! All you do is lay the ingredients flat on the tortilla and then roll it up. They look pretty and they’re so convenient to eat. I like to fold the edges in and then roll it up so the edges are closed. When I am making a wrap to pack in a lunch box, I roll it up as tightly as possible and wrap it in plastic wrap. This keeps the wrap secure holds all the contents in place until it’s time to eat so it doesn’t get soggy.
With a Tortilla
With a Lettuce Leaf
For a low-carb Italian Sandwich Wrap option, or if you just like a little extra crunch, use green leaf lettuce as the wrap! Place all the ingredients on top of the lettuce and eat it like a lettuce taco.

Or dinner perhaps
Sounds delicious and convenient quick and easy. I especially like that you added the additional ingredients that could be used. Thank you for sharing.
Totally awesome, making one tomorrow on a garlic herb wrap 😁
I made this wrap for my husbands lunch today! I had all the ingredients on hand and used our last spinach wrap tortilla to put it together. I heated up the tortilla a little to make it softer and more pliable to wrap, added a very light layer of pizza sauce on the wrap then layered hard salami, Black Forest ham, provolone cheese. I tossed together the shredded romaine lettuce I had with sliced black olives, banana peppers with the dressing to evenly coat it then added to the wrap and rolled up.
It presents beautifully cut in half served it with air fryer seasoned fries and sriracha ranch dressing. Now I’m afraid my husband will want lunch at home everyday 😂 thank you for this awesome recipe!
Haha – I’m so glad you and your husband liked the recipe. You added some really delicious touches! Thank you for sharing!

That combo of ham, salami and pepperoni is a winner. Definitely a fabulous wrap to make over the weekdays!
