Ingredients in Angel Food Cake with Pineapple Whip

This simple dessert comes together with just a few ingredients! A box of angel food cake mix, your favorite betties, and a dollop of cool whip infused with pineapple flavors, this is one of the best! Here’s what you need:

  • Angel Food Cake – One box angel food cake prepared in a tube pan or bundt pan. You can also bake the cake batter in a regular baking dish or baking pan.
  • Heavy whipping cream – You can find this in the dairy section of the grocery store.
  • Vanilla Extract – About one teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar – Two tablespoons for the whipped topping and more for dusting on top.
  • Crushed pineapple – Use a 15 oz can, but do NOT drain. You’ll want all of that delicious juice to add pineapple flavor to the whipped topping.
  • Vanilla pudding mix – one 3.4 oz package instant pudding.
  • Strawberries – about two to three cups of sliced berries. You can also use blackberries, raspberries, any fruit you like.

Tips for Perfectly Fluffy Cake

It’s hard to mess up a box cake, so that’s why I love using one for this recipe. There are lots of homemade angel food cake recipes out there, but this one is so easy and delicious! Here are a few tips for getting perfectly light, delicious cake that looks like a million bucks!

  • Using a large mixing bowl, whisk your ingredients together at medium speed but don’t overmix. Follow directions on the cake box.
  • It’s best to use an angel food cake pan for best results and to cook evenly in the oven.
  • Make sure to spray your pan with cooking spray so the cake comes out clean.
  • Lightly scoop batter into the pan and spread out so the cake bakes up evenly.
  • Bake until the top is a gorgeous golden brown. You can also stick a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, the cake is done.
  • Because this is such a light cake, use a serrated knife to cut slices. This will prevent the cake from smashing down against the knife.
  • Cover leftover cake with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator or freezer.

Perfect for 4th of July

Looking back as well, I realized I could have added blue food coloring to either the cake or pineapple whip and made it even more patriotic looking for the fourth of July! It’s always fun to doll up a delicious dessert for a holiday. You’ll be a big hit bringing this to your family or friend Fourth of July gathering.

Questions About Angel Food Cake

Should I use instant pudding or stove-top cook pudding?

For this recipe, I recommend using instant pudding. It just makes the whole dessert come together faster.

How many people will this cake serve?

This dessert serves 12-16. With a Bundt Cake, it is easy to measure out the slices to your desired amount before actually cutting. To get 16 slices, cut the cake in half vertically, then horizontally, making a cross. then cut each ¼ section into 4 slices. This is easiest when you cut each section in half, and then each of those sections in half.

Can this dessert be made ahead of time?

The components of the cake can be made ahead of time, definitely! Store the whipped topping covered in plastic wrap in the refrigerator, then add to the cake right before serving.

  3. Is this instant vanilla pudding or stove top? This looks similar to a recipe i have but easier if it is instant pudding.

    1. You should be able to make all the components beforehand, but I would top the cake just before serving to make sure the consistency is the same. Hope this helps!
