Thai Chicken Wraps with a yummy peanut sauce have just the right crunchy texture and lots of flavor. Easy to pack for lunches or picnics.
Featured with this recipe
Thai Chicken Wraps are a favorite to make for a really tasty lunch, a supper main dish, or appetizer. They have delicious tender chicken smothered in peanut sauce, and a crunchy slaw with a bright Thai dressing. This is one of my favorite chicken wrap recipes to make during the summertime, especially. We take these on picnics because the crunchy cabbage won’t wilt like romaine lettuce, so we will pack a bunch of these wraps up in a cooler and hit the park or the lake. My husband loves packing a couple of the chicken wraps for lunch at work and I keep them on hand for an after school snack. Such a delightful switch up from boring sandwiches.
Ingredients in Spicy Chicken Wraps
Not only are these chicken wraps delicious, they’re super easy to throw together! And they can be switched up all sorts of ways to fit your family’s tastes, such as Thai chicken lettuce wraps. But here’s what we start with:
- Chicken Breasts – cooked any way you like and sliced
- Peanut Sauce – a mix of peanut butter, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, Sriracha, and water. Use half of it to flavor the chicken, and half as a delicious dipping sauce for the wraps.
- Thai Slaw – a delicious, crunchy combination of cabbage, carrots, peppers, and cilantro tossed in a dressing of sweet chili sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil and lime juice.
- Tortillas – use whole wheat, spinach wraps, or regular flour tortillas.
The Secret’s In the Sauce
This super easy peanut sauce recipe is packed full of delicious savory and sweet flavors combined! It is a sweet, salty, and spicy sauce that originated in Indonesia. It is also known as satay sauce because it is a popular dipping sauce for chicken satay. Peanut sauce is used in many dishes throughout the world, including Indonesian, Thai, and Malaysian cuisines. It makes the perfect dipping sauce for these Thai Chicken Wraps.
Optional Add-ins and Substitutions
Much like sandwiches, these wraps are extremely versatile! Add or take out any ingredients you like, and I promise they’ll still be delicious! Here are some sweet and savory ideas for additional ingredients in your wraps:
Thai Slaw Variations
- Add thinly sliced cucumbers, shredded broccoli stems, red onion, celery, green onions, or bean sprouts.
- Use rice wine vinegar instead of rice vinegar.
Peanut Sauce Variations
- Add more Sriracha or add red pepper flakes for extra spice.
- Add chopped peanuts for a crunchy texture.
- Use brown sugar or maple syrup instead of honey.
- Add a fresh squeeze of lime juice.
More Filling Variations
- Use tofu instead of chicken.
- If you prefer shredded chicken in your Thai Chicken Wrap, then check out our guide to making perfect shredded chicken.
- Add rice to the wraps for a more filling wrap.
- Add chopped peanuts for extra crunch.
Tips for Thai Chicken Wraps
- Once you have the peanut sauce blended, you can store it in the refrigerator for up to a week. Use extra sauce to drizzle on just about anything!
- Make these wraps ahead of time and store them tightly covered in the refrigerator. They transport really well, so they’re perfect for picnics, potlucks, traveling or camping.
- If you don’t have time to cook your own chicken, grab a rotisserie chicken at the store and shred it up or use ground chicken.
- You can use any kind of tortillas you like. Flour burrito size tortillas are what we usually use, but we also love whole wheat or spinach tortillas for extra nutrients.
- Make Thai chicken lettuce wraps by wrapping the filling into lettuce leaves. One leaf of butter lettuce is perfect.
Frequently Asked Questions about Thai Chicken Wraps
The answer is entirely what you put in them. Wraps are often thought of as healthier because they usually have few calories than a regular sandwich. But be careful of extra sauces, cheeses or other ingredients that could add extra fat and calories to your wrap.
A regular flour tortilla is around 210 calories, less than two slices of bread, which are typically between 150-240 calories each.
Whole-wheat tortillas are generally considered more healthy because of the extra nutrients that a plain flour wrap doesn’t have.
