Now, don’t get me wrong, I often use canned beans in my cooking, but sometimes it is fun to take an ingredient up a notch! This pinto beans instant pot recipe is one of my favorite Instant Pot recipes because it is minimal effort, but delivers so much taste!

So much flavor and deliciousness when making pinto beans in an instant pot. Pinto beans are very nutritional and packed with so many essential nutrients. Instant pot pinto beans recipe will have all you need to stay healthy and enjoy a light and tasty homemade side dish with few ingredients. Ingredients for Homemade Pinto Beans Recipe

Enjoy these pinto beans made in an instant pot! It is simple to make with all pantry staple ingredients. The pressure cooker will be cooking the beans for you making them perfect every time. You can’t go wrong with this pinto beans instant pot recipe!

  • Dry Pinto Beans – Pinto beans mean ‘painted beans’ in Spanish. When the beans are dry they are light tan with brown specks. Cooking beans soften the bean leaving them perfect to add to a homemade bean soup or other types of bean recipes.
  • Water – For simplicity, I use water to cook the beans. However, you can use chicken broth or vegetable broth to add more flavor.
  • Onion – Use a small yellow or sweet onion for the best flavor.
  • Bay Leaf – Don’t forget to take the bay leaf out after the beans are cooked!
  • Salt and Pepper – Keep it simple with salt and pepper or spice it up with some of our suggestions below.

The pinto beans instant pot recipe is a simple recipe that has all the flavor! It is quick and easy to make with little to no preparation. Clean the pinto beans, cook them in the instant pot, then serve them as an appetizer, side dish, or part of the meal!

  1. Clean the pinto beans – Rinse and drain the beans. Check for any dirt or foreign objects. Place all ingredients in the Instant Pot for pressure cooking.
  2. Cook in the instant pot – Cover the Instant Pot with the lid and turn the valve to sealing. Cook on the manual setting on high pressure for 50 minutes. When the timer goes off, immediately quickly release the remaining pressure. Remove the bay leaf.
  3. Saute mode – If you want the liquid to be thicker, place the Instant Pot on saute mode and simmer until it reaches the consistency you want.

This recipe is a very basic pinto bean recipe. You can add different spices, veggies, or even meat to this recipe to add flavor. Add your own or try some of our favorites!

Even though you set the timer for 50 minutes, it still takes the Instant Pot about 10-15 minutes to get up to pressure. So, plan on a little over an hour.

Can I soak the beans before I cook them in the Instant Pot?

If you have time to soak the beans, then yes. Soak the beans in a large bowl of water for 8-12 hours. If you presoak the beans you can set the timer on the Instant Pot to 15 minutes.

How do I store the beans until I am ready to use them?

Store dry beans in an airtight container at room temperature. Store cooked beans in an airtight container in the fridge until you are ready to use them.

Store your instant pot pinto beans in an airtight container in the refrigerator for five days. If you are wanting to freeze your instant pot pinto beans, then place them in the freezer for one month. When ready to reheat, place in the microwave or warm up on the stovetop on medium heat.
