Frequently Asked Questions

We have had SO MANY comments/questions regarding this recipe and we find ourselves answering the same questions over and over… we are having a hard time keeping up! Give these FAQs a read and hopefully, we will have a quick answer to your question!

What makes this soup/smoothie “magic”?

We call these recipes “magic” because we (the girls at FFR) have all had it at one point or another with GREAT results. We call it “magic soup” between us sisters so we are calling it “magic soup” on here!

Do I only eat this soup all day and every day?

No, you will still need to get other calories in (about 1,000) to lose weight at a healthy rate. While eating other calories, continue to be aware of what you are eating and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Will I gain all my weight back afterward?

This is always a possibility with any diet plan you are on. We recommend only using this soup for 7 days. It is more of a positive kick-off to your diet or a new way of living. It is a quick way to help lose weight right away and be confident while you are starting your lifestyle change. Continue to keep exercising, hydrate often, and watch your portion control. When needed throughout your weight loss plan, feel free to use this soup/smoothie to fill in or restart your goals.

Will I be going to the bathroom a lot?

There are several vegetables in this soup/smoothie and they tend to do this, especially when losing weight. If this is something you are worried about, or if you find yourself hitting up the bathroom too much for your liking, eat the soup along with some whole-wheat toast, brown rice, or even a banana.

What if I am not trying to lose weight, can I still eat this?

ABSOLUTELY!!! This is still a delicious, healthy soup and it is a great way to get in your daily vegetables.

Storing Weight Loss Smoothie

This healthy smoothie recipe is a little tricky to “store” or have as leftovers just like any typical smoothie. Because it is already blended and the ice will begin to melt and give too much moisture, re-blending the smoothie may result in being too watery or water-downed. If you need a break you can leave it in the fridge or freezer for a short period of time.

  1. Fantastic website you have here but I was curious about if you knew of
any community forums that cover the same topics discussed
in this article? I’d really love to be a part
of community where I can get advice from other experienced people that share the same interest.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thank you!

      1. Thank you! I didn’t think it would hurt. I did have this combination last night and Yes the scale still moved down. : )

Gluten free popcorn. Brown bag, popped in the microwave. Sprinkled with real unsalted butter.

  2. both the soup and the smoothie doe not give nutritional values like it has said..I am diabetic and need the carb count any way you can give both on it?

    1. I just found this and am making it right now! I don’t think it would be difficult to do a little of your own homework and look up Carbs for each ingredient, since Favorite Family Recipes so graciously gave you the whole recipe. Just saying. It’s not a whole lot of ingredients.

    2. Try entering the recipe onto “my fitness pal” once it is logged in, it will give you all the nutrients and caloric amounts you need. Both for dieting and health issues. My daughter in law uses the app to help her control her diabetes, she says it’s done more to keep her on track than anything she has ever used. The soup is amazing, but you have to make adjustments according to your health. If you’re not getting the carbs you need, add a small side of cornbread. Or something appropriate.

  3. Due to a very serious back injury, multiple surgeries, and now meds, I have gained close to 170 lbs. I do not exercise like everyone else. I have also been on a diet for 2 years. I think my diet is keeping me from gaining anymore weight. Since I take Morphine and Norco, and have been for 5 yeasts, will this stuff work? I have to eat high protein and high fiber just so I can go oncea week if I’m lucky. Would this change my dysfunction? I hear certain lentils are high in fiber and protein. Would that be a good or bad addition? I can’t wait to try this.

      1. Low carb = low cal. That’s why it works. Plain and simple. When you rmovee one whole macronutrient from your plate, you reduce your calories by approx 1/3rd. Was nothing to do with food type. You can lose weight eating pasta, or rice, or yams. So long as you run a calorie deficit. I eat lean protein, carbs, fat. I just eat less and I exercise more. I lost 30 lbs in 4 months and kept it off 2 yrs now. Eat from smaller plates. Ur eyes see a full plate, but ur eating less. Go walking too

    1. I have the same dilemma. …..chronic asthma w/ massive doses of steroids. ..and I have blown up from 120 to 180 …..unable to exercise properly….3 hip surgeries…2 replacements…a back fusion….andall due to avascular necrosis. ….it’s horrible and embarrassing. …AND I have tortured myself by holding on to my size 6 and 8 clothes…..

      1. Find some form of exercise that you like and can do. Maybe swimming? Water lightens your weight, and you use water resistance to build muscle. This comes highly recommended by people who have painful joints, back and knee pain or even fibromyalgia. And little bits add up! If you can do 6 sets of 5 mins, you’ve met the 30 min goal over the day. I find this help with my fibromyalgia, as well as swimming and yoga.

  4. Do you have any suggestion’s on protien intake. I need to lose fat, but I also need to gain muscle. I know the difference in the loss, and gain of both. In the fact that if you lose fat, and gain muscle, the scale might say you have gained weight, but you are actually smaller. So I need to vonsume a fair amount of protien. Also what about fruit intake?

    1. Use the soup in the way that is best for your own diet. It is a great filler that is low in calories. If you need to be eating lots of protein, continue to do that! Use the soup as a low calorie option when you are feeling hungry.

Just what I was looking for!! I do have a question and I didn’t see it answered in the other comments. 🙂 I am carb cycling to lose weight. Would this be considered a low carb meal or high carb meal? Thank you so much!

  7. I’m thinking possibly I missed this in the comments, but what size cans of broth and what size cans of V-8. I am going to grind/blend my own tomatoes and am going to purchase the broth. Thanks so much!!

    1. The can sizes are in the description above the recipe for the soup. All the cans are the regular (14 to 16 oz.) size. The v8 is 3 cups.
