The Sweet Cheese Ball You Will Want at Every Party

Cheese balls are a must at any holiday get-together, right? But this one’s got a twist – it’s sweet! I love how this chocolate chip cheese ball brings everyone together, making it the perfect way to end an evening.

It’s just right for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or really any time you want to share a special treat with friends and family. Plus, it’s a hit for potlucks, work parties, or cozy family nights. The chocolate chips and creamy sweetness make it irresistible, and there are so many fun things to dip into it. Trust me, you’re going to love it!

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball Ingredients

With only 6 ingredients, this recipe is pretty simple:

Cream cheese – softened so you can incorporate the other ingredients easily.

Butter – softened for easy incorporation.

Confectioner’s sugar – this mixes with the cream cheese to make your ball perfectly sweet.

Brown sugar – this gives the cheese ball a classic cookie dough flavor.

Vanilla – use whatever you have!

Ingredients to make Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball including cream cheese, powdered sugar, mini chocolate chip, butter, brown sugar and vanilla.

Which Chocolate Chips are Best?

I love using mini chocolate chips for this cheese ball—they cover the entire surface perfectly, no spots or gaps! You can totally go with regular chocolate chips if you like, but just keep an eye out for any openings and patch them up to get that fully-covered look.

When it comes to chocolate flavors, I’m a big fan of the classic milk or semi-sweet, but honestly, this is where you can get creative. Try white chocolate, dark chocolate, peanut butter chips, or even holiday flavors like peppermint. And don’t stop there—mix and match to make your own flavor combos: milk chocolate with peanut butter, white and dark chocolate, or dark chocolate with peppermint. The possibilities are endless—go wild and try them all

What to Dip in a Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

The best part of this cheese ball is choosing what to dip in it! Some ideas are cookies, vanilla wafers, pretzels, Teddy Grahams, graham crackers, apple slices, and pear slices.

Tips and Suggestions

  • Before placing in the fridge, wrap your cheese ball in a large piece of plastic wrap and then in a layer of aluminum foil. The foil retains the shape as well as keeps any smells from the fridge out of your cheese ball.
  • For easy clean-up, place the sweet cheese ball in a wide bowl or rimmed plate when coating with the chocolate chips.
  • Be sure to refrigerate your cheese ball long enough. At least for a few hours, but overnight is best.
  • Once out of the fridge, your cream cheese cheese ball can sit out at room temperature for only 2 hours before it becomes an environment hospitable for dangerous germs. See keepfoodsafe.org for more information.
  • If you are a fan of nuts, you can add chopped pecans, walnuts, or almonds to the chocolate chips before coating. Try to chop the nuts approximately the same size as the chocolate chips you are using.
