White Castle Sliders on a serving platter

This White Castle sliders copycat recipe makes flavorful, juicy, perfect little cheeseburgers everyone loves! Even my picky teenager loves these and requests them often, which is saying a LOT. Don’t be fooled by the fact that they are small and hand-held. These sliders pack a mighty punch to your hunger, and are satisfyingly filling! These are perfect to make for a crowd, and can be enjoyed by many!

Enjoy this delicious restaurant favorite in the comfort of your own home! Take your sliders to the next level with this simple and easy White Castle slider recipe. Layer the buns, meat mixture, and onions on top of each other to make the best tasting sliders yet!

Ingredients in White Castle Sliders

These aren’t your ordinary beef patties with cheese! You’ll love the unique flavor that results from combining the following ingredients:

  • Ground beef – Use lean ground beef for this slider recipe. A little fat from the hamburger in the meat is okay. It will hold the sliders together better.
  • Lipton onion soup mix – This comes in a two-pack in a box. It seasons the meat with a nice, savory onion flavor. You will only be using the dry mixture, so no need to make up the packet.
  • Peanut butter – Yes, peanut butter! Just a tablespoon, and trust me on this! If you are really against using the peanut butter, you can just leave it out, but it holds the meat together nicely.
  • Milk Gives the meat a tender and juicy texture.
  • Onion – Yellow onion that is finely chopped. You will scatter the onions over the top of the ground beef and bottom buns during the baking process.
  • Slider buns – I found mine in the bakery section of the grocery store. You can also use Hawaiian rolls in place of normal dinner rolls, or mini bread rolls.
  • Cheese slices – About 10 to 12 Kraft American cheese slices, or any type of cheese you like.

Step by Step Instructions

As I’ve already mentioned, these aren’t your typical cooked patties! It is a great meal to feed a crowd! It’s easy to make a lot of these sliders all at once using these step-by-step instructions. These white castle sliders come together quickly and easily!

  1. Mix – Mix the ground beef, Lipton onion soup mix, peanut butter, and milk in a large bowl.
  2. Flatten – Spread the mixture on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a rolling pin to roll over the meat to smooth it out over the bottom of the baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.
  3. Bake – Take the pan out of the oven, sprinkle the diced onions all around the edges, then bake for 15 more minutes.
  4. Layer – Remove from the oven, spoon the onions from the edges all over the top of the meat, and layer with cheese slices. Bake another 7 to 10 minutes or until cheese has melted.
  5. Slice – Slice the cooked patties with a pizza cutter. Place the patties between the slider buns.
  6. Serve – Add any condiments, pickles, or extras that you like over the patties, slap on the top buns, and enjoy!

Toppings for White Castle Sliders

Once you have your sliders baked and cut, you can top them with all kinds of toppings. Here are a few ideas to take your sliders to the next level!

  • Condiments – You can’t go wrong with the classics – ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise.
  • Pickles – I prefer the dill pickle slices best, but you can try bread and butter or lime pickles for various flavors. If you are a pickle fan, then go crazy with the pickles. For us, we like to use about 20 to 24 dill pickles on our sliders.
  • Cheese – Choose your favorite cheese! American cheese will give you that signature flavor, but you can use cheddar, Swiss cheese, pepper jack, or Colby jack. Any cheese is good cheese when it is melty cheese!
  • Meat – Add on a slice of ham or cooked bacon strips for a thicker, more hearty slider.
  • Garlic powder – Sprinkle garlic powder on the burgers for some extra flavor.
  • Topping – Brush a little melted butter on top of the buns and add sesame seeds for a fun appearance and extra texture!

What to Serve with White Castle Sliders

These white castle sliders are delicious and filling by themselves, but for the authentic burger experience, we love to serve them with french fries. You can also enjoy them with a lighter side like salad or chips.

  • French Fries Classic crinkle-cut or shoestring fries make a perfect side to complement the sliders. You can make your french fries from scratch or cook up frozen fries in the air fryer!
  • Onion Rings Crunchy, golden-brown onion rings add a delicious texture and flavor contrast.
  • Coleslaw A creamy and refreshing coleslaw pairs well with the savory sliders, balancing out the flavors.
  • Side Salad A light side salad with fresh greens, tomatoes, and a vinaigrette dressing offers a healthier option.
  • Sweet Potato Fries – For a twist, serve sweet potato fries that provide a slightly sweet and savory contrast.
  • Chips – Crispy potato chips, whether regular or flavored, are an easy and convenient side option.
  • Fruit Salad A bowl of fresh fruit salad adds a refreshing touch to the meal, balancing the richness of the sliders.
  • Corn on the Cob Grilled or boiled corn on the cob can be a fun and flavorful addition to the meal.
  • Soup – Pair the sliders with a warm bowl of soup, such as tomato soup or a hearty chili, for a satisfying combination.
  • Macaroni and Cheese Creamy mac and cheese brings a comforting element to the meal.
  • Baked Beans – The sweetness and heartiness of baked beans complement the sliders’ flavors well.
  • Mashed Potatoes Creamy mashed potatoes are a comforting side that can be a great addition.

“This was so good! Tasted just like White Castle. Can’t wait to make these for family gatherings!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave out the onions?

Yes, of course you can, but I suggest giving them a try. Even if you don’t like onions, they add a wonderful flavor and texture that just can’t be duplicated.

Why does this recipe call for peanut butter?

I know it sounds weird, but the peanut butter adds a terrific texture and depth of flavor that is difficult to substitute. If you have a nut allergy or just can’t do the peanut butter, feel free to leave it out.

Can I use pre-packaged dehydrated onions for the topping?

Yes! These work great and still have the classic onion flavor that helps provide the White Castle taste!

Storing the Perfect Sliders

Make these ahead of time or learn to freeze them the proper way! Store them for a quick snack the next day or freeze them for a later time. These white castle sliders are an easy weeknight dinner that everyone enjoys!

  • Making ahead – Prepare the sliders ahead of time and store them in the fridge until ready to reheat.
  • Storing – Place the cooled white castle cheeseburger sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator for three to four days.
  • Freezing – Wrap the extra sliders in plastic wrap, then place in a freezer-safe bag for up to a month. Just make sure to thaw the burgers out completely in the refrigerator before microwaving so they cook evenly.
  • Reheating – These little sliders make the best leftovers! Take them out of the fridge and pop them in the microwave for about 30-40 seconds and they taste just as fresh as the night before!

  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 12 cheese slices Kraft or Velveeta cheese slices work great too

  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef. Lipton onion soup mix, peanut butter, and milk.
Ground beef in a glass bowl

Hamburger meat covered with cheddar cheese

Ground beef topped with onions, cheese, and buns
  • Remove from oven. Slice the meat into individual sliders with a pizza cutter. Pick up the slider meat and its top bun with a spatula and set it on the bottom bun.

Notes

  • I found my slider rolls in the bakery section of the grocery store. You may be able to fit more or fewer buns on the meat, depending on the size of the buns.
  • Once you have your cheese sliders baked and cut, you can top them with all kinds of toppings ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, or other condiments; dill pickle slices (you’ll probably want 20-24 dill pickle chips for these, especially if you’re a fan of dill pickle); lime pickles; garlic powder; and a pinch of salt.

These were so easy and so good. My whole family loved them. The only addition I had to make per my Husband was finely diced jalapenos. Awesome!

  2. 5 stars
These are AMAZINGLY delicious!! I cooked them just as the recipe said, and my entire family (husband and two teen children) devoured them. This recipe tastes just like the restaurant’s. It’s definitely a keeper!

Absolute fabulous recipe! With the addition of a simple tweak, plus an addition of garlic. I followed the recipe to a “T” but I added a clove of minced garlic to the ground beef and here’s the main adjustment… I grated 1/3 of the onion and added it to the ground beef as well prior to cooking. This came out just like the Whitey’s burgers but only better! I’ll make this forever.

It is very interesting how “know it alls” can sell an idea ? I worked at a Krystal !
The burgers were in a slab frozen. Take out a slab put on grill front. It was a hot
part. After a given am’t of time (varies with a lot going on), turn over by sections (spatula was suited to task) move to rear of grill where it was warm then buns were put on,top first bottom on top. Cheese was put on as sold. as far as make up of burger we did not know exactly. But, it was all to gather. Onions were Incorporated with th meat . Not put on grill first. Mustard and pickle added at sale .

  5. This is how it’s done:

No peanut butter, no milk, no baking. Just steam them on a generous bed of re-hydrated onions. I made enough late night runs to White Castle while I was in college and I watched them closely. This is how they do it. This is how I do it (for the most part).

    1. Yes!!! This is why white castles are so amazing. Because they never touch the griddle. They are not pan fried or sautéed. They are steamed with the holes in the burgers sitting on the bed of onions that give off the moisture that comes through the holes and the buns on top cook the top. You nailed it. These were delicious but nothing like white castles

I used Kings Hawaiian Slider Buns and spread the diced onion over the bottom of the pan before rolling out the meat. After 30 minutes, I spread a mixture of dill relish and mustard over the meat and topped with American Cheese. Baked for an additional 5-10 minutes. Everyone raved about these!!! Thanks.

    Haters gonna hate, lol.
These are way better than white castle proper. Living in Michigan, we’ve had a steady supply of gut busters my whole life. I prefer this recipe over white castles ANY-DAY.
I have a few tips though!! If its your first time making this, dont be overwhelmed – the steps are easy. EACH STEP I DRAIN THE GREASE OFF. That is not listed in the recipe, however, I cannot imagine how incredibly greasy it would be if you didn’t do this!! Also, after I take the cookie sheet out of the oven the 1st time, I sprinkle a little onion powder (season to your liking) and pepper on the meat. Then put it back in the oven. I leave a little piece of the meat withOUT onions – some people dont care for them, but appreciate the flavor. Just giving you some tips, thats all. Also, I buy the Deli american cheese – the finer quality cheese, you will notice a difference and so will your fam, the sliders taste WAY better.
All in all, a GREAT recipe. I always make 2 batches because my family and friends will eat the first batch, the 2nd batch is for us for leftovers the next day (OMG these are so good reheated!).

    1. Oh! I almost forgot. My Kroger sells little brioche dinner rolls, they are delicious and perfect for this recipe.

      1. 5 stars
ONE MORE THING: I also put “hamburger pickles” on my sliders. Forgot to mention that. IT MAKES THEM!!

  8. I have a question more than a comment. I see the nutritional info but was wondering how many sliders is considered a serving? Is the nutritional info provided “per slider”? I did make the recipe this weekend but used the Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (my sons fav) and they were delicious. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I’m so glad you liked them! The Hawaiian Sweet Rolls are the best! To answer your question, yes, the nutritional information listed is per slider. Thanks for asking!

    2. There good but I’m from the midwest where white castle is known an they have nowhere near the same taste as the castle. They are good just not WHITE CASTLE GOOD!😉

  9. 5 stars
Wow! I am a White Castle fanatic and you wont get any closer to the real thing. Follow the recipe and don’t change a thing. If you’re a White Castle lover, you wont be disappointed. Im not sure if the peanut butter added to the consistency or the taste…or both… but do what the recipe says. Thank you for sharing this one!!

10 stars as far as Im concerned

They were good but do not taste like White Castle. I grew up on White Castle. And the peanut butter was no big deal. It adds a good flavor to the hamburger.

  11. HI, i TOTALLY ALTERED THE RECIPE, BUT i STILL THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO COME HERE AND COMMENT ABOUT IT. it tastes awesome even though it wasn’t remotely close to what you suggested I use here and feel I should tell that to you. so who cares about your recipe. It was my first time and I decided to do something radically different and tell you that it actually tastes better than your recipe, even though I never actually cooked it.

    1. 5 stars
I used chicken instead of beef, mushroom soup instead of onion, cashew butter instead of peanut butter, goat milk instead, and swiss cheese instead of Velveeta. LOL! No one ever follows the recipe, they always have to be different!

      1. 5 stars
Pretty darn close to White Castles. For me, its cheaper to just go the 10 blocks to my nearest White Castle. But it was fun making these and they were yummy.

  12. Petty good. While eating from the wheel of death at work and paying three bucks for a fricking two pack of white castle I started to think that these should be super easy to make and cheaper than eating out of the vending machine.

I didn’t use the peanut butter or the milk, but I don’t like either. I also left the meat a tiny bit thicker. Tossed a dusting of old bay seasoning on top before putting the onions on top. Used Velveta cheese slices.

I’m planning on featuring these during my next D&D game, quick, easy, tasty and cheap, no better way to feed a room of half a dozen people.

    1. So glad you enjoyed them! Thank you for the nice comment! Glad you will enjoy them while battling Demigorgons (Everything I know about D&D comes from Stranger Things so I honestly don’t even know this is an actual D&D reference lol)

My family adores these lil sliders so I’ve been making them for years, trying different methods. I’ve made this recipe and I it is one of my favorites. You guys, the peanut butter isn’t that big of a deal. I use it when I have it and sometimes I’ve just forgot to put in there…either way, they are delicious and you do not notice that it’s in there, UNLESS you put more that what is suggested and if so, that’s on you. One time I forgot to put in the Lipton soup and didn’t realize it until I was ready to cook them, so I just sprinkled a little on top as they were cooking and then the other side when I flipped. It actually works well and we like the more intense flavor with it being on top. Just an option in case you forget to add it. Great recipe!

    1. Hi Patti- Thank you so much for this constructive comment. I am so glad that you and your family have enjoyed this recipe!

I cooked these in minutes tonight. I was afraid the peanut butter would be over powering, but I used it anyway. These turned out so tasty and moist. I will be cooking these again. I added JK’s steak seasoning, onion powder and garlic powder. Yum ,yumhi

Yummmmmm! A party favorite! Make at least double the amount you think you’ll need, they disappear fast and leave ’em begging for more!

Never had White Castle sliders before but wanted to try them. Just used this recipe tonight and they were very tasty. Buns were fresh made this morning at bakery. But I used shredded cheddar cheese rather than slices. These were very tasty burgers. Plan on freezing half of them for future cravings. Thanks for the recipe. Will make this again for sure.

    PS,
the people complaining about peanut butter tasting bad probably used old stuff. It takes on a ‘formaldehyde’ kind of smell when it gets tainted. So do most nuts eventually as well. And that smell will lead to a bad taste in the food, if you use the tainted peanut butter in anything. I bought a fresh jar of it today and was glad I did. When I went to make the sliders, my old jar had that bad smell. So it got thrown out. fyi

Made these tonight and they were SO GOOD!!! Hubs said they tasted exactly like white castle. Will definitely make again!
I was only able to make 10 though. I rolled the meat out to the edge, but maybe I need a bigger sheet pan?

      1. Or maybe you were using larger rolls? Either way, its an easy fix! We use standard size cookie sheets.

Cooked these yesterday. I included the peanut butter and added some fresh onion to the meat mixture in addition to the soup. Because my son has decided that red meat is off of his menu, I actually used 93% lean ground turkey. They were delicious!

    1. Hi Karen- so glad you liked them! I love the idea of adding more onion too! I bet it really amps up the flavor! Thanks for the 5 stars!

    2. I want to make this recipe, but can anyone tell me what size of cookie sheet for 1 1/2 pounds of hamburger? I know there are different sizes.

    3. We are on a low sodium diet. I’m going to omit the onion soup mix, add low sodium beef base and finely chopped onion . I hope this works. I love White Castles but they leave my ankles the size of my calves. I usually order them without onions at the restaurant anyway…no indigestion or heartburn that way.
