Ingredients in White Castle Sliders

These aren’t your ordinary beef patties with cheese! You’ll love the unique flavor that results from combining the following ingredients:

  • Ground beef – Use lean ground beef for this slider recipe. A little fat from the hamburger in the meat is okay. It will hold the sliders together better.
  • Lipton onion soup mix – This comes in a two-pack in a box. It seasons the meat with a nice, savory onion flavor. You will only be using the dry mixture, so no need to make up the packet.
  • Peanut butter – Yes, peanut butter! Just a tablespoon, and trust me on this! If you are really against using the peanut butter, you can just leave it out, but it holds the meat together nicely.
  • Milk Gives the meat a tender and juicy texture.
  • Onion – Yellow onion that is finely chopped. You will scatter the onions over the top of the ground beef and bottom buns during the baking process.
  • Slider buns – I found mine in the bakery section of the grocery store. You can also use Hawaiian rolls in place of normal dinner rolls, or mini bread rolls.
  • Cheese slices – About 10 to 12 Kraft American cheese slices, or any type of cheese you like.

Step by Step Instructions

As I’ve already mentioned, these aren’t your typical cooked patties! It is a great meal to feed a crowd! It’s easy to make a lot of these sliders all at once using these step-by-step instructions. These white castle sliders come together quickly and easily!

  1. Mix – Mix the ground beef, Lipton onion soup mix, peanut butter, and milk in a large bowl.
  2. Flatten – Spread the mixture on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a rolling pin to roll over the meat to smooth it out over the bottom of the baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.
  3. Bake – Take the pan out of the oven, sprinkle the diced onions all around the edges, then bake for 15 more minutes.
  4. Layer – Remove from the oven, spoon the onions from the edges all over the top of the meat, and layer with cheese slices. Bake another 7 to 10 minutes or until cheese has melted.
  5. Slice – Slice the cooked patties with a pizza cutter. Place the patties between the slider buns.
  6. Serve – Add any condiments, pickles, or extras that you like over the patties, slap on the top buns, and enjoy!

Toppings for White Castle Sliders

Once you have your sliders baked and cut, you can top them with all kinds of toppings. Here are a few ideas to take your sliders to the next level!

  • Condiments – You can’t go wrong with the classics – ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise.
  • Pickles – I prefer the dill pickle slices best, but you can try bread and butter or lime pickles for various flavors. If you are a pickle fan, then go crazy with the pickles. For us, we like to use about 20 to 24 dill pickles on our sliders.
  • Cheese – Choose your favorite cheese! American cheese will give you that signature flavor, but you can use cheddar, Swiss cheese, pepper jack, or Colby jack. Any cheese is good cheese when it is melty cheese!
  • Meat – Add on a slice of ham or cooked bacon strips for a thicker, more hearty slider.
  • Garlic powder – Sprinkle garlic powder on the burgers for some extra flavor.
  • Topping – Brush a little melted butter on top of the buns and add sesame seeds for a fun appearance and extra texture!

What to Serve with White Castle Sliders

These white castle sliders are delicious and filling by themselves, but for the authentic burger experience, we love to serve them with french fries. You can also enjoy them with a lighter side like salad or chips.

  • French Fries Classic crinkle-cut or shoestring fries make a perfect side to complement the sliders. You can make your french fries from scratch or cook up frozen fries in the air fryer!
  • Onion Rings Crunchy, golden-brown onion rings add a delicious texture and flavor contrast.
  • Coleslaw A creamy and refreshing coleslaw pairs well with the savory sliders, balancing out the flavors.
  • Side Salad A light side salad with fresh greens, tomatoes, and a vinaigrette dressing offers a healthier option.
  • Sweet Potato Fries – For a twist, serve sweet potato fries that provide a slightly sweet and savory contrast.
  • Chips – Crispy potato chips, whether regular or flavored, are an easy and convenient side option.
  • Fruit Salad A bowl of fresh fruit salad adds a refreshing touch to the meal, balancing the richness of the sliders.
  • Corn on the Cob Grilled or boiled corn on the cob can be a fun and flavorful addition to the meal.
  • Soup – Pair the sliders with a warm bowl of soup, such as tomato soup or a hearty chili, for a satisfying combination.
  • Macaroni and Cheese Creamy mac and cheese brings a comforting element to the meal.
  • Baked Beans – The sweetness and heartiness of baked beans complement the sliders’ flavors well.
  • Mashed Potatoes Creamy mashed potatoes are a comforting side that can be a great addition.

“This was so good! Tasted just like White Castle. Can’t wait to make these for family gatherings!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave out the onions?

Yes, of course you can, but I suggest giving them a try. Even if you don’t like onions, they add a wonderful flavor and texture that just can’t be duplicated.

Why does this recipe call for peanut butter?

I know it sounds weird, but the peanut butter adds a terrific texture and depth of flavor that is difficult to substitute. If you have a nut allergy or just can’t do the peanut butter, feel free to leave it out.

Can I use pre-packaged dehydrated onions for the topping?

Yes! These work great and still have the classic onion flavor that helps provide the White Castle taste!

Storing the Perfect Sliders

Make these ahead of time or learn to freeze them the proper way! Store them for a quick snack the next day or freeze them for a later time. These white castle sliders are an easy weeknight dinner that everyone enjoys!

  • Making ahead – Prepare the sliders ahead of time and store them in the fridge until ready to reheat.
  • Storing – Place the cooled white castle cheeseburger sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator for three to four days.
  • Freezing – Wrap the extra sliders in plastic wrap, then place in a freezer-safe bag for up to a month. Just make sure to thaw the burgers out completely in the refrigerator before microwaving so they cook evenly.
  • Reheating – These little sliders make the best leftovers! Take them out of the fridge and pop them in the microwave for about 30-40 seconds and they taste just as fresh as the night before!

  1. I used premium ground beef and it seemed like there was an awful lot of liquid/grease, is it supposed to be that way? I poured some of it off because it just looked like it was drowning in grease.

After every step of taking the tray out of the oven, I gently lift one end of the tray and drain all of the juice into a solo cup or something I plan on discarding (Dont put it down the drain!). This method ends up draining a TON of liquid.

These were EXCELLENT, and a huge hit at our Slider Party. I searched a number of posts for “white castle burger recipes” and went with yours Erica. The only thing I did different was a I poked some holes in the meat after the first bake and spread the onions so they went into the holes too! Then, instead of adding the top bun and baking, I added the bottom bun on the meat and then set it on the top bun. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t remember the buns being toasted, I thought they were steamed. We’re having a huge pool party tonight with 40 people and I’m making these again! And of course serving them with crinkle cut fries! Totally not on my Weight Watchers points but I’m a runner so I’ll add an extra mile or two today and tomorrow!

  3. hi!! can i possibly spread the onions over the entire meat ‘slab’ (for lack of better words LOL) ? or do u feel it might be too much onion? i don’t mean a thick layer either!

  4. I am making them. So excited about this. I grew up in Michigan and now am in Northern California…

omgoodness!! as a jersey girl growing up on these delicious bundles of joy. I followed your recipe and didn’t leave anything out including peanut butter( yea how weird is that) wow awesome!! can’t wait to eat the leftovers.

    1. We use a half sheet pan (18×13) and the sides are about an inch high. The photos you see in the recipe instructions are on a pan this size. I hope this helps!

These were just ok. The peanut butter added a very weird flavor and if I were to make this again I would definitely leave it out.

Tried this today…..as someone who lives in Columbus, Ohio, where the headquarters of White Castle is located and having consumed numerous sliders over the years, this was delicious. I can personally say that yes, these taste like White Castle sliders but BETTER. Thicker patty, extra onions, lotsa cheese-you must add dill pickles as they are an essential part of the little burgers. I am not sure what White Castle some of the reviewers have eaten at but true White Castle has NO condiments on them, none. No ketchup, mayo or mustard. They are simply bun, patty, onions and pickle, cheese options (American or jalapeño, sometimes garlic or smoky cheese are run as a special). For those who have sampled the frozen version, they are without pickle as they heat up to like surface of the sun hot. If you put dill pickle slices (dill relish works too) on them post nuking, that is the traditional burger. Highly recommend trying this as written-plus pickles! Enjoy!

    1. I worked in New Jersey for a year and the White Castles came with ketchup on them. It was the way they make them in Jersey. It was a long year.

Very, very good, but not quite White Castle. I’m 72yo and have been eating WC since a toddler, I’ve often said “You can’t go into a White Castle as an adult and expect to survive!” As a young college student, my poor husband tried them and that’s when we found out he couldn’t tolerate onions. He’s gone now so next time I make this recipe I will cast aside fear and up the onion!!

    1. I haven’t tried that before, so I’m not sure. Ground turkey is usually a bit drier than beef so I don’t know if it would hold the shape as well. Let us know how it goes if you do try it!

  12. 5 stars
These are delicious! While they are not exactly the same as a White Castle burger, they do in a pinch. This is definitely a recipe I will make again and again. Thanks!

  13. 4 stars
I haven’t had them but I want to know if I can freeze them.
I definitely going to make them but there’s only two of us and I never have luck cutting the recipes

Wow this is really darn close and maybe better! But there is something missing even in the burp and the buns aren’t gooey. I will figure it out! The peanut butter is awesome you can’t really taste it but your mouth can feel it. Thank you for a White Castle burger in Florida!!!

    1. Do you think originally they buttered the buns ? Or maybe the grease from frying on a griddle saturated it?
