Radishes haven’t always been my first pick when it comes to veggies. I usually go for a salad or some roasted asparagus. However, I’ve recently discovered that roasting radishes makes them so good! Cooked radishes taste like a cross between a potato and a carrot. They have a great texture and bite to them. These root vegetables have a mellow flavor so you can dress them up with lots of different spices and seasonings.
Roasted radishes are a delightful and unexpected treat, and they’re a great way to enjoy this root vegetable in a new and exciting way. Roasting radishes mellow their sharp, peppery flavor and transform them into a tender and slightly sweet side dish. It really is the perfect dish that is totally kid-approved!
Ingredients for Roasted Radishes
With just a few simple ingredients you will have the best side dish of roasted radishes for any meal! Baking radishes with olive oil gives them a nice flavor with a crispy outside texture and a soft, tender inside. Each bite it filled with a special spice blend that tastes amazing!
- Raw Radishes – I like to buy the Rainbow Radishes from Trader Joe’s simply because they are pretty. However, you can find whole radishes in the produce section at the grocery store.
- Olive Oil – Olive oil is my favorite oil for this recipe, but you can also use avocado oil.
- Spice Blend – For this recipe I used a simple spice blend. See below for variations.
- Fresh Herbs for Garnish – This is totally optional, but I like to sprinkle some fresh herbs as a garnish at the end. I think it makes the dish look pretty and it adds just a bit of freshness. Try parsley, dill, fresh basil, or chives.

Variations
Roasted radishes have such a mellow flavor that they pair with lots of different spice blends! The spice blend in the recipe below is pretty basic, so feel free to spice it up! Here are some of my favorite ways to flavor the radishes.
- Pesto – Pesto is a flavorful Italian sauce traditionally made with fresh basil, garlic, pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil.
- Cajun Seasoning – This is a flavorful spice blend that has bold and spicy flavors to it.
- Lemon Pepper – Add a little freshness and zing to lemon pepper. It is a popular seasoning blend used for a refreshing and spicy taste.
- Taco Seasoning – A blend of spices and herbs normally used to season tacos or most Mexican food recipes. Add this for a more flavorful radish.
- Curry Powder – This curry has a versatile spice blend that has a variety of pantry staple seasonings combined into one powder. The combination of these spices creates a complex and layered flavor profile in curry powder. The dominant flavors are usually warm and earthy, with a hint of bitterness and sweetness from ingredients like turmeric and coriander.
- Ranch Dressing Mix – Dried herbs, creamy and tangy flavor sprinkled over top the roasted radishes. This is always a popular blend that is rich and savory with a tangy taste.
- Italian Seasoning – The combination of dried herbs and spices creates a well-rounded and aromatic flavor that is powerful and full of flavor!
Recipe Tip
Radishes come in all shapes and sizes. When cutting the radishes, try to make the pieces relatively the same size. This will ensure they all cook at the same rate.
