This Crockpot chicken Alfredo is one of those great and easy chicken recipes you can make up in a flash. While it cooks, the flavors all come together and make the chicken taste amazing! When it is ready, the chicken easily shreds up, you add a couple of ingredients, and you have a zesty, creamy chicken sauce that you can eat over noodles or rice. Not only was my husband crazy about this, but my kids loved it too! You can’t beat a slow cooked meal that is easy, delicious, and family friendly! I like to put it in the Crockpot before work or church. There is nothing better than walking into the house and smelling the Italian seasoning and creamy, chicken aroma wafting through the air.
Ingredients in Crockpot Chicken Alfredo
- Chicken breasts – we recommend only using fresh, thawed chicken
- Chicken broth – or chicken stock works great too.
- Butter
- Package of dry Zesty Italian dressing mix – we like the Good Seasons brand.
- Cream cheese
- Cream of chicken soup – we also have a great cream of chicken soup substitute recipe.
- Optional: Sprinkle some parmesan cheese over the top when serving.
Alternative to Cream of Chicken Soup (and Other Substitutions)
Not a fan of canned cream of chicken soup? No problem! We have a recipe for homemade Cream of Chicken Soup that you can make from scratch! Use 1 ½ cups of the homemade recipe instead of the canned soup. For another healthy option, you can use 3-4 tablespoons of olive oil instead of butter. You can also use 1 cup of half and half or heavy cream instead of cream cheese. If you use half and half, add it at the end of the cooking time, about 30 minutes before serving or you risk it separating.
How Long to Cook Chicken Alfredo in the Crockpot
Making this dish is so simple. Just throw everything in the crockpot and cook on high for 3 ½ to 4 hours. The internal temperature of the chicken should be at least 165 and it should shred into small pieces. Stir until the sauce comes together. Add milk, heavy cream, or chicken broth to thin the sauce if it’s too thick. To serve, pour over pasta or rice.
What to Serve on the Side
If you’re looking for a great way to round out this delicious slow cooker meal, there are several options. Generally, with a chicken and rice or chicken and pasta dish (this tastes great over either) something simple like steamed broccoli or roasted potatoes is great. Though, something about this dish makes me want green veggies. Try our Oven Roasted Green Beans to mix things up. Asparagus makes an excellent complement to this meal as well. Or, go for a little bit of everything with our Oven Roasted Vegetables.

Notes
Recipe Tips:
If you can’t find an Italian Dressing dry mix, it is easy to make your own.- 3 teaspoons Montreal Chicken seasoning (if you don’t have this, you can mix together a little salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper together, and maybe even a dash of red pepper flakes)
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 4 teaspoons oregano
- 2 teaspoons lemon pepper
This sounds amazing! I leave the house at 7:30 a.m. And don’t get home until 3:00 p.m.. I have a crock pot that will automatically switch to ‘keep warm’ when the time is up. My question for you is, can I cook this on low for 7 1/2 – 8 hours so that it doesn’t need to be on the warm setting for hours? Does 7 1/2 hours sound right if I cook it on low?
Yes, 7 1/2 hours will be plenty of time. Hope this helps!
Are your listed measurements for seasoning correct? 4 tsp or oregano seems like a lot, and wanted to make sure it wasn’t supposed to be a fraction of this amount. I love this recipe with the regular seasoning packet but just looked in the pantry and I’m out so want to use your mixture.
yep, that is right 🙂 you can cut down on it if you don’t like oregano though
You are my go-to gals!
I’m a football booster mom and tonight I’m trying this one.
I know that your recipes are always delicious.
I’ll be doubling it .????
The guys look forward to “Pasta Thursday” all week.
And they’re 5-0 so we must be doing something right! ????
Thank you so much Kellie! I hope you liked this recipe (it has been one of our favs for YEARS)! Those football guys are lucky to have you as a booster mom! Way to support your team!
do you do you use boneless skinless breasts or bone in skin on chicken breast
We always use boneles-skinless but bone in would be fine if that is all you have on hand
Hi, I’ve been making this for a few months now & was in a rush for time, so I added everything all at once…mixed the liquids & spread on too of frozen chicken thighs. My family LOVES it!
So glad you like it! Great idea to put on chicken thighs. Totally going to try that! Thanks!
This was so delicious. I am Gluten free so I omitted the can of chicken soup. I added more broth and thickened with cornstarch. I loved all of the spices!
Do you use boneless/skinless or bone-in?
boneless, but bone-in would be ok too!
We use boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Thank you for asking!
What size can of cream of chicken ?
The small can
Curious, do you add the water to the soup as instructed on the label or just put in the pot as is?
Mike, you just add the soup as is – don’t add water. Thanks for asking!
Can I use chicken legs/thighs instead of breasts? My hubby won’t eat white meat.
Great idea! I’m sure it turned out great with the dark meat, yum!
I use a full 12oz can of chicken broth, that way you don’t have to thin it as much at the end. Sometimes if I don’t have a package of dry Italian seasoning, I use some of the liquid Italian dressing. I have been able to find the liquid Italian dressing sometimes at the dollar store for a dollar a bottle. You can’t beat that! I like to shred the chicken before I put it on the noodles.
Great tips! Thanks for sharing 😀
What size package of cream cheese?
An 8 oz. package
Sounds wonderful, what size pkg of cream cheese?
An 8 oz. package
Do you break up the cream cheese when added? Placed on top of the chicken, sides or both?
I’ve made this recipe dozens of times and I do like to break up the cream cheese before adding it to the crock pot. I quickly stir it in with the chicken so it can soften and melt, and then replace the lid. I hope this helps!
Do you really use frozen chicken?
You can use thawed or frozen– I fixed it on the recipe 🙂 Thanks for catching that
I have tried many versions of Italian Chicken, but after trying this one I won’t try another one. This was so yummy! Thanks for the easy recipe. 🙂

Wow! Easy and delicious. Just followed the instructions and it was perfect. My kids loved it, even my somewhat picky 7 year old. My husband enjoyed it too. Will defintely make this again.
What would you suggest to serve with this?
Well, we serve it with rice or noodles. Then I like to do veggies or a salad on the side.
My kids love this over No Yolks noodles
Thank you for the nice easy recipe. Have a Great Day and Week!
Can this be cooked on LOW for a longer amount of time? I like to throw stuff in my crock pot before leaving for my P-T job and cone home 6 hours later to a cooked meal!
This looks perfect for my family. Can’t wait to try it!
A doubt… 1st step of method – cooking the chicken n “1/2 cup” broth on HIGH??? For THREE AND A HALF TO FOUR HOURS??? Really?
Yes, really. I make this recipe all the time and I don’t even use the broth, just the margarine and the chicken. It’s a great recipe.
These girls never give a bad recipe!:)
Agreed!
I’ve made something similar and even left out the butter. Just put the chicken and Italian Dressing.
