Summer Peach Crisp

This gorgeous and sweet Peach Crisp recipe is our favorite quick dessert to whip up during those warm months when you want a sweet treat without much fuss. Fresh summer peaches sliced up with a buttery, crumbly, crisp topping that is so easy to make, topped with a giant scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. This dessert is best served outside on the patio with friends and family, where you can chat late into the night.

Best Peaches for Peach Crisp

We love the taste of fresh peaches in this dessert. They’re juicy, ripe, full of flavor. However if the craving strikes when peaches aren’t in season, frozen peaches are the next best option. Canned peaches are also a terrific alternative too. If the peaches are too juicy or if they seem too wet you can add a tiny bit of cornstarch to thicken it up.

Ingredients for the Best Peach Crisp

This peach crisp really is one of our favorite easy summer desserts. And all it takes are a few simple ingredients. Here’s what you need:

  • Peaches – fresh ripe peaches are delicious but you can use canned or frozen peaches.
  • Raisins – you can substitute craisins or other dried fruit.
  • Sugar – white sugar works great or you can combine some brown sugar into your streusel topping for an extra rich taste.
  • Cinnamon – A  teaspoon ground cinnamon can also be combined with a pinch of nutmeg.
  • Almond extract – this gives the streusel topping  a rich, nutty flavor. If you don’t have any on hand, you can substitute with a teaspoon vanilla extract.
  • Butter – make sure it’s cold, and use a pastry cutter to mix in with the flour.
  • All purpose flour – The flour mixture helps bind the topping together.
  • Granola – any flavor or your favorite brand will work. Or try our delicious Homemade Vanilla Granola.
  • Chopped pecans – stir in a handful of your favorite nuts if you want extra crunch in your topping
  • Add a little lemon zest or a splash of lemon juice to the peaches for a little zing.
  • Top with vanilla ice cream or whip cream.

How to Store Peach Crisp

Store any leftovers tightly covered in the baking dish or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Keep fresh peaches covered in a large bowl in the fridge until time to use.

Summer Fruit Crisps

While I love a rich, heavy, cozy dessert, there’s something so refreshing about using the bounties of summer produce in a sweet treat to enjoy after a long day of playing in the sun. Fresh peaches in this easy peach crisp are my favorite but you can also try any of these delicious fruits in this dessert:

  • Apple (can remove peels or leave peels on the fruit)
  • Ripe red cherries
  • Raspberries picked from the vine
  • Plump strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Apricots
  • Plums
  • Blackberries or Boysenberries
  • Try a mixture of any of these berries or fruits for a delicious medley crisp

What a delicious way to use up peaches! I had some leftover so this was a no brainer. The crumbles were perfect, especially with ice cream.
