- Lime sherbet – This is a sweet and tart sherbet that blends well with the lime and lemon in the 7up.
- Pineapple sherbet – Soften the sherbet ahead of time. This will help when scooping the sherbet.
- 7-up – A great kids’ drink that always blends well with other ingredinets. Usually fruity or tropical drinks. It does not have any caffeine too!
- Frozen pineapple juice – These come in cans that you can find in the freezer aisle of your grocery store.
- Frozen limeade – This is filled with lime juice and pulp and then frozen in a smaller container. The frozen concentrates will give an ice-cold boost when blended.

How to Make a Tropical Slush
Frozen tropical slush is the perfect drink for parties, at-home movie nights, or a hot day in the backyard. These are cooling and refreshing plus so easy to make! This tropical slushie is sweet and creamy with every sip!
- Soften – Allow sherbets to soften slightly.
- Blender – Mash sherbets, frozen juices, 7-up, and cream of coconut together.
- Serving – Serve in cups or hollowed-out pineapples or a cold drink beverage carrier.
Great for a couple or a crowd
This recipe makes a big batch so it is great for parties or a Hawaiian Luau! It makes enough for about 20 people so it will serve a pretty good quantity of people. But be warned, people tend to go back for second and third helpings of this yummy drink. So expand the recipe to fit the size of your gathering.
If you are making these for a smaller group, or just your family, you may want to half or quarter the recipe. You can also make a full batch and freeze what you don’t need. Then you can spoon some out on a random day and pretend that you are back on vacation!
Switch it Up
Using the same basic recipe, you can swap various flavors in and out to meet your preferences or allergies. This slushy is so versatile and easy to mix and match flavors and ingredinets to make it just the way you like it!
- Substitute coconut – Not a fan of coconut! Try using another flavor like raspberry. Or, leave the coconut out.
- Creaminess – If you leave out the coconut the drink will lose some of its creamy flavor and texture. However, if you want to keep creamy, but ditch the coconut, try using heavy cream or sweetened condensed milk. Just add a little until it tastes right.
- Soda – Use lemon sparkle water instead of 7up if you are watching calories or prefer not to have soda.
- Serving – We like to serve these in hollowed-out pineapples to make them even more fun. But you can definitely make them in a regular cup if you are short on time. If I make them without the real pineapple, I still like to add a slice of pineapple and cherry and a colorful straw. It’s also fun to add cute colorful paper umbrellas.
“Makes me think that I’m sitting on a beach when I’m sipping this! Love the flavor!”

This sounds so yum!!Is there anything else I can use instead of 7up? I am pregnant and not drinking any sodas at the moment. Will a lemon-y sparkling water of some sort work?
I think it would work with lemon sparkling water! It might not be quite as sweet, but I think it would still turn out!
Makes me think that I’m sitting on a beach when I’m sipping this! Love the flavor!
I really loved the combination of flavors! A perfect summer treat!
This slushy is seriously amazing! Makes me think I’m somewhere tropical every-time we make it.
Yum – very refreshing!
I need this now! It looks so refreshing & I love all those flavors, especially combined in a slush!!
How many servings does this make? I want to whip this up for my boyfriend and I, but I don’t want to end up with too much if we can’t save the rest for later.
This recipe makes 20-24 servings, so you would need to cut it down by quite a bit. If you want to make it just for two, try this:
1 cup lime sherbet
1 cup pineapple sherbet
1 cup 7-up
1 Tbsp frozen pineapple juice
1 Tbsp frozen limeade
1 1/2 Tbsp Coco Lopez Cream of Coconut
This will make 1 1/2 cups of slush for each of you. If you want more you can double this recipe. Enjoy!
Looks cute served in the pineapple. Is there some way to substitute the coconut? (allergies)
hmmm… you could possibly substitute with another flavor like raspberry. Or you can leave it our all together. It just adds a creaminess to it– I am sure you could leave it out!
You could sub sweetened condensed milk or even heavy cream if you wanted the creamy texture.
Yum – I’ll have to try that!
What is Coco Lopez cream of coconut? this drink sounds wonderful.
It can be found in the cocktail section of the grocery store. It is used to make piña coladas.
This looks fantastic! I may try it out for a party this weekend. I just wanted to clarify…when you say frozen pineapple juice and frozen limeade, are you talking about the frozen concentrates? Just want to make sure I have the right ratios. Thank you!
Would love to try this, it looks delish!!! But I am wondering the same thing as the lady above … Are you talking frozen concentrates?
yes.
