- 3 sweet onions
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- 16 ounces sour cream
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Thinly slice the onions.
Melt butter in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Add onions and stir until they wilt down significantly. Adjust the heat to medium-low and cook until the onions turn a deep golden brown and become very soft and jammy. This can take anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour. Be patient! Then stir in balsamic vinegar and remove from heat.
Let onions cool a little while you mix the rest of the ingredients together. Add the onions and stir.
Garnish with sliced green onions (optional) and serve with chips!
