This Easy Fruit Pizza is a must try! Sugar cookie crust, cream cheese, and fresh fruit – what could possibly be better?

Whole fruit pizza with a slice cut and held with spatula.

Fruit Pizza is a dessert pizza made with a sugar cookie crust, a cream cheese frosting layer, and fresh fruit toppings. My first experience with “fruit pizza” was at a Pampered Chef party years ago. I loved it! It is an especially yummy treat in the summer when the best fruits are easily available from your own garden or fruit and vegetable stands. We live in an area where there are delicious fresh peaches available in the late summer. I could make a whole fruit pizza with just fresh peaches and it would disappear in seconds.

Fruit Pizza Ingredients

The sugar cookie crust for this easy fruit pizza recipe can be homemade or store bought. Any kind of fresh fruit can be used to design the top of the colorful fruit pizza. The pizza can be sliced like a regular pizza or cut in smaller squares for serving. Here’s all you need:

  • Unsalted butter – one cube, or half a cup, softened
  • Sugar – regular, white sugar
  • Brown sugar – one half cup light brown sugar, packed
  • Eggs – two large, whole eggs
  • Vanilla extract – one teaspoon of your favorite brand
  • Baking powder – one teaspoon
  • Salt – one teaspoon kosher salt
  • Flour – two and a half cups, sifted.

Fruit Pizza Frosting

  • Cream cheese – 8 ounces of softened cream cheese
  • Powdered sugar – one cup confectioners’ sugar, or more if you want it a bit thicker and sweeter.

The Pampered Chef recipe calls for store bought refrigerated sugar cookie dough. It definitely saves some time doing it this way, but, if I have time, I prefer homemade cookie dough. This cookie dough recipe mixes together quickly in a medium bowl with an electric mixer or a stand mixer and gives a thicker, softer crust to the fruit pizza. The texture makes it easier to hold on to when eating by hand. Bake on a pizza pan using parchment paper or sprinkle with all purpose flour so it doesn’t stick. You can use this sugar cookie recipe or one of your own. If you have leftovers (which is highly unlikely!), be sure to keep the extra Easy Fruit Pizza in the refrigerator.

More Fresh Fruit Pizza Toppings

Now’s the time to get creative with color and flavor. I prefer a variety of fresh berries, kiwi fruit, and fresh peaches. But you can try any of these delicious fruit combinations:

  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Blackberries
  • Peaches
  • Kiwi fruit
  • Mango chunks
  • Grapes
  • Bananas
  • Apples
  • Clementines
  • Pears

Canned Fruit Ideas

When fresh summer fruits are hard to come by, I have found there are also fresh fruits available year round and even some canned fruits that work great. Check out the recipe for three ideas for topping the pizza depending on the season and fruits that are available.

With canned fruits, you have to be careful with the water content. Drain the fruit in a strainer and place it on a paper towel. Use another paper towel to pat the fruit dry as much as possible before adding it to the pizza. You can also put the fruit in the refrigerator to allow it to chill while the crust cools. For the best results, add canned fruit to the pizza just before serving it.

  • Mandarin oranges
  • Pineapple chunks
  • Peach slices
  • Diced mango
  • Cherries (pitted)

Decorating Designs

  • My favorite part of making this sugar cookie fruit pizza recipe is decorating the top! There are so many fun ideas out there on Pinterest, Facebook or Instagram for how to decorate a fruit pizza. You can do it the way we did it in this picture, or just google “fruit pizza” on Google images and go nuts!
  • Peaches, strawberries, apple slices, pear slices, and mandarin oranges are perfect for flower leaves. It’s fun looking at all the different designs out there.
  • Make a sunrise by rolling on a 14-inch pizza pan and using fresh pineapple, oranges, and strawberries. Garnish with some simple lemon zest.
  • Use a jelly roll pan to make a rectangle and use strawberries and blueberries for a festive 4th of July American flag. Could also be cute for Memorial Day.
  • Drizzle with honey or a powdered sugar and milk glaze for extra sweetness.

I made this without refrigerating the dough. I used a rolling pin to roll dough onto a stone pizza pan sprayed with olive oil cooking spray. I’d post a picture, but don’t see that option.

My grandkids love my punch bowl cake, I will make them this fruit pizza and I’m so sure they will want seconds.. Thank all of ya’ll for sharing…….

I highly recommend making the cookie dough rather than using store-bought cookie dough. It was delicious and quick to make. This was the best dessert I have ever made for a family gathering.

  4. I’d like to make the fruit pizza as an appetizer instead of a dessert. Any ideas what could be used for the crust instead of a sugar cookie?

I have made with crescent rolls before- but everyone prefers the sugar cookie- just depends on what you put on for toppings I think!

The prettiest and most fresh dessert ever. LOVED using the fruit I had on hand to make this dessert. We hvae all berries at the moment. Can’t wait to try your caramel apple version!

    1. Yes! You can cover with plastic wrap and freeze until you are ready to serve. Allow to thaw 10-20 minutes before serving. Hope this helps!

  6. Honestly I didn’t really love the crust on this recipe. The cookie held up well but was a little dry and bland and it was not over cooked at all. Take your favorite sugar cookie recipe that you know is good and perfectly sweet and use that recipe. I personally feel like it wasn’t sweet enough nor moist enough.

That fruit pizza is gorgeous. Bonus…looks so much easier to make than a regular fruit tart. And looks like it will taste just as good.

    1. Yes, you definitely can use a cake pan instead. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it is cooking through how you want it to.

    1. You can definitely try it, I think it would be a great option if you are looking to make it more of a whipped topping. Let us know how it turns out!

    1. It should be close as close to room temperature as possible. If not, it will have clumps in it when mixed with the sugar. Thanks for asking!

    1. Thank you, Barbara. We are talking with our publisher about a reprint. We are hoping to have it available again soon.

    1. Hi Karen, you can use as much or as little as you would like. I usually purchase the smallest container of strawberries and blueberries, and I usually use 3-4 kiwi depending on the size. Thanks!

    1. It does get a little softer, but not soggy. Make sure the fruit is as dry as possible if you are going to refrigerate it overnight. Thanks for asking!

Looks good but I noticed the cook had peeled the kiwi- my granddaughter taught me to loosen it with a spoon and the kiwi slides right out then you can slice it! Saves time !

I also remember this recipe from a Pampered Chef party some years ago and I never forgot it. I have been looking for it ever since I lost my original copy of it. Thank the heavens I found it! This is exactly the one I remember, too. Thank YOU for posting it!!! Thank you also for clearing up what a cube of butter is. I had never heard it called that before.

  10. I notice a lot of “pins” give measurements that we here in Australia are not familiar with. We don’t buy butter by the cube or the stick, can you please give weight measurements? Many thanks.

  11. Can you keep the cookie dough refrigerated for longer than an hour? Even overnight? Or does it make it dry out? Just wondering if I can make this ahead of time for Easter so the day of won’t be so hectic! Thanks!

    1. Yes, you can make it ahead. Take the dough out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before you roll it out. Keep it wrapped in the plastic wrap until you are ready to use it. Thanks for asking!

  12. What is one cube of butter? Is it one stick or 4 sticks, making a cube of them. I want to make this for a swim party today. It looks amazing!!

      1. whew had this recipe out and all ready to go – re-read and thought what is one cube thank you for the question and clarification

Wow, what an attractive pizza! If you don’t mind, I plant to use your design on my fruit tarts as well.
